Bras are a crucial part of a women’s daily ensemble; an ill-fitting bra can cause back problems, muscle strain and poor self-esteem. A bad bra can easily make or break your outfit. They give you confidence and it is about time that you got properly sized for the right one!
Sometimes, women can overlook the importance of a wonderful fitting bra, but since we are always wearing them in some form either backless, strapless, racer-back or underwire, it’s time to make sure they actually fit.
As someone with a petite frame and small bust I am always on the hunt for bras that make my breasts look perky without going overboard on cleavage. I may occasionally wear a push-up bra, but you will not catch me wearing one of the Victoria’s Secret wonder bras that increases a woman’s bra size by two cups! That is two cups too much!
No woman wants to wear a bra that is too big for her or leaves her boobs looking droopy and unattractive. That is why it is so important that women get sized at any major department store including, Macy’s, Nordstrom or Bloomingdales. The women that work in these departments are fit specialists, meaning that they must go through rigorous training and certification before helping any customers.
I intentionally have not suggested Victoria’s Secret because when it comes to proper sizing for women with larger busts I find that they usually do not receive the correct size at Victoria’s Secret.
What does it look like when my bra is not fitting properly?
Signs of an incorrect bra fit may include the bra riding up, breasts that spill out of the bra cups, flesh that rolls over the back of the bra, straps that dig into your back or gaps between the between the bra and breasts. I am sure that all you ladies reading this article have seen what it looks like when a bra does not fit a woman properly.

Another question you may be asking yourself is: If I am going to invest in good quality bras, how can I maintain them?
Bras need to be washed carefully with all the padding and elasticity you want to make sure that your bras are going to go the distance with you. Here are a few helpful reminders:
- Before washing make sure you have fully read the label.
- Use a lingerie bag to wash the bras in the washing machine.
- Wash them in cold water with detergent solution. Close the clasps or hook the bras before washing them.
- Scrub the bra straps with a soft brush. This is an effective tip to wash bras and prevent them from spoiling.
- Use few drops of vinegar to remove sweat stains from the straps and linings.
- Don’t dry the lingerie in dryer. Let them air dry. This prevents the undergarments shrinking.
- To wash underwire bras, use cold water and hand wash them. Don’t use brush as it can spoil the fabric and break the underwire.
