Jackets, coats and vests…oh my! The world of clothes is a wonderful world and I am currently sipping a margarita and relaxing on Spring Jacket Island! Maybe I took that metaphor a little too far, but my point is with thechanges in weather ranging from sunny and warm to rainy and cloudy it is absolutely necessary to have a light weight spring coat.
With spring showers giving bloom to May flowers, every woman needs a light weight spring coat that she canlayer over dresses, skirts and blouses to serve as a barrier between the elements and her outfit.
For many people the first thought that comes to mind is a classic trench coat with a belt that is a light beige color, which makes it completely neutral. Although I am a fan of the trench for obvious reasons, I have dared to expand my horizons and try some other styles that are also perfect for spring as well.
First, the jean jacket, it is a wonderful addition to anyone’s wardrobe because it is versatile and virtually goes with any outfit choice. As someone that has recently reentered the world of denim I was hesitant to give the jean jacket a chance. I remember wearing jean jackets in third grade on the playground, I digress.
The point is that jean jackets are excellent for wearing with sundresses, skirts and an assortment of other pieces. I always find myself throwing it on when I can’t figure out another option or I just need something quick to run out of the house with, regardless it always looks great!

If you are looking for a place to find the perfect jean jacket try Madewell, Jcrew, Nordstrom (Juniors section) or Urban Outfitters. Make sure that the color or wash compliments a variety of items in your wardrobe so you get as much use out of it as possible.
Also, ask the salesperson to help you determine the cut that compliments your body type. Since I am petite, I have to be mindful of tailoring and proportion. So when it comes to jean jackets I went for a cropped fit that would not overwhelm my small frame. Here’s how I wore it:

The ultility parka is another type of jacket that would be an excellent layering piece. Sidenote: the parka may be a little more challenging for petite women depending on the proportion of the jacket, but absolutely give it a try! If you find that the parka is just a bit too oversized pair it with some wedges or kitten heels. I like the parka fit is a little more relaxed and casual, which is great for weekend outings.
Finally, the last jacket that I am in love with is the field jacket. The field jacket that I found at J.Crew was breathtaking! I love the fit is more tailored, so I often wear it with dresses to work. The jacket comes in navy blue and an olive green. Most people are drawn to the olive green, but since I already have a utility jacket that color I opted for the navy. This jacket is durable, while sophisticated and chic with the gold detailing.
