About a week ago I started reading the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes. I first received the book over a year ago from a former employer, but never took the time to sit down and read it; instead, I let it collect dust on my bookshelf.
A few weeks ago I was visiting a close friend, when he mentioned the book and the good reviews that it had received from critics, his friends and family. It was at this point that I decided to give the book a chance.
According to Amazon:
Fragments of a Great Secret have been found in the oral traditions, in literature, in religions and philosophies throughout the centuries. For the first time, all the pieces of The Secret come together in an incredible revelation that will be life-transforming for all who experience it. In this book, you’ll learn how to use The Secret in every aspect of your life — money, health, relationships, happiness and in every interaction you have in the world. You’ll begin to understand the hidden, untapped power that’s within you, and this revelation can bring joy to every aspect of your life. The Secret contains wisdom from modern-day teachers — men and women who have used it to achieve health, wealth and happiness. By applying the knowledge of The Secret, they bring to light compelling stories of eradicating disease, acquiring massive wealth, overcoming obstacles and achieving what many would regard as impossible.
I found this book to be incredibly inspiring, life altering and innovative. My favorite idea from the book is the author’s suggestion to the readers to visualize their dreams daily and feel as if they are living them. Some people may find it challenging to embrace emotions or feelings that they have yet to experience, but that barrier may be keep you from living your dream. If you do not truly believe in your dream how can you expect it to come true?
In an effort to bring these abstract ideas into my own reality the book suggested that readers create avisualization board to keep their goals and dreams constantly at fore front of their minds. Since I am a visual learner so I decided to create a visualization board that illustrates all my hopes and dreams. This board will help draw positive thoughts and good energy towards me.
So to start my board, I looked on the Internet and travel magazines to find pictures of Spain, Italy, Amsterdam, Aruba and Bora Bora — all places I plan to visit throughout my lifetime. When I think of these places I try to image what the food will taste like and how the people will dress and interact with one another.
Next, I put images of where I want to live. More specifically, the type of house or apartment I see myself settling down in. I cut out pictures from home decor magazines of how my perfect bedroom (and walk-in closet), bathroom, kitchen and living room. I think about the colors of each room and how it will feel to be in the space.
I also think about my future career and how I will maintain my lifestyle. For some odd reason whenever I think of my life, it happens to look awfully similar to Carrie’s from Sex and The City! I guess if you watch a show enough it seeps into your brain!
Finally, I included images of things that bring me joy such as puppies, fresh fruit, my favorite bands, quotations and of course an array of attractive men one of which will closely resemble my future husband!
What would you include in your visualization board? What goals and aspirations are most important to you? What do your boards look like?
