Kate Middleton: Obsessed With Tiny Clutches

I wish I was the kind of girl that is able to  constantly wear tiny clutches or microscopic cross-body bags, but in reality I have too much junk in my purse to ever really commit to the tiny clutch life style. I can never shove fit all my stuff into one small condensed space.

After-all I’m a girl so that means that I must always have my cell phone, lip gloss, mints, wallet, iPod and car keys on me at all times! How can I downsize?

According to the article, “Blame Kate Middleton for All These Absurd Little Purses“, Kate Middleton has single-handedly mastered the tiny clutch persona. In the article, written by Charlotte Cowles, Cowles suggests that Kate does not actually use these clutches to carry or transport anything; instead, the clutches are merely used for a receptacle for Kate’s hands.

This theory is entertaining and probably holds some truth. What would Kate really need in her purse?Maybe a mint or lip gloss? She is the Duchess of Cambridge so I  doubt she needs to carry a wallet or license with her since she is on the cover of practically every magazine. She is easily identifiable.

She has body guards and assistants with here at all times so there is no need to carry a cell phone. And car keys? Where is she driving? Kate is the perfect example of the woman that can get away carrying nothing in her purse because she always has everything that she needs surrounding her. I cannot blame her for her good fortune, instead I am envious that she can carry such cute delicate clutches all the time.

I think that it is genius for her to carry around these little clutches to occupy her hands. If I were constantly interacting with varies royalty, presidents and prime minsters I would be nervous too! This clutch is the perfect way to keep her hands busy without fidgeting.

Whenever celebrities are on the red carpet they carry clutches, have you ever seen a celebrity on the red carpet with a tote or cross-body bag? No!

Thats because clutches are clean, hand held and do not detract from the outfit. If we take this thought one step further,  we usually see Kate at charity events and elite gatherings; she is rarely in plain clothes. Thus is makes sense then that she carries clutches to all these special occasions.
According to handbag designer Lulu Guinness, Middleton’s fondness for tiny purses has sparked a trend. “If she’s done anything for the handbag, it’s the fact that she wears small clutch bags,” she told the Telegraph. “Personally, I am making my clutch bags smaller next season, so they’re more delicate and ladylike, and that’s to do with her, I think.” What a bother for the rest of us.
Although I love clutches and cross-body bags I am drawn to bigger bags because they carry all my stuff comfortably and allow me to keep my hands free while shopping or talking on the phone.
Also with larger bags I do not run the risk of sitting them down to look at something and walk away mindlessly. Yet there are some days that I want to feel more free and less burdened with a large bag. On those days I turn to my mid size cross-body bags, over-sized clutches or my Hobo wallet that has extra space for my phone and lip gloss!
